Printer Port Data Acquisition Systems and Compaq PCs

Before you can use one of our printer port data acquisition products, you have to be certain of the printer port's configuration. Most computer manufacturers provide a BIOS setup routine that allows the operator to configure specific printer port modes. These can be standard, bi-directional, or enhanced printer port (EPP) depending upon the requirements of the application and the data acquisition device used.

Many computers manufactured by Compaq Computer Corp. lack a mechanism for affecting printer port mode adjustments, which has made it difficult to use Compaq computers in many situations. Compaq has recognized the problems created by the absence of a BIOS setup program, and has taken steps to remedy the situation. If you use a Compaq PC (desktop or laptop), and you find that you cannot change the printer port's mode, contact Compaq by calling:
